Broken World

I stole this from Too Overflowing (http://tooverflowing.com/)

Whitney Houston’s death got to me last night. Probably because after scrolling through a couple of articles about her — one of my teen “idols” — I then read three more depressing news stories — one about cancer another about politics and a third about a girl being shot in a church. In a church.

This world. It’s broken.

That’s one reason I need my red chair. Well. Not the chair itself, but Who I meet in that chair every morning.

I need reminding on a daily basis that this isn’t it. We temporarily pass through this world, sojourning to something bigger. Sojourning as aliens. There’s more than just this broken here and now. Thank you, Jesus.

I have to remember because otherwise the weight of all the earth-happenings could press me into a hopeless pile. Yet hope forever exists with Him.

As for you, O Lord, you will not restrain
your mercy from me;
your steadfast love and your faithfulness will
ever preserve me!
Psalm 40:11

Sitting in that red chair, I look to the Author and Finisher. The Lover of my soul. Then I ever-imperfectly choose to set my eyes on Him. I close the Pages and lace up my shoes, ready to run this faith-race again today. All by His grace. All under the covering of His matchless love.

Fill me, Lord…
Where do you go to get away with Him?

I wish I could remember what Colt was telling this chicken.

Here is Peachy, Buggy, Savy J, Bubby, the child has tons of nicknames.

Buggy loves anything princess. She is really good at talking her brother and her cousin into dressing up in princess dresses.

Happy 2nd Birthday to this handsome little guy!

Jack is obsessed with trucks, tractors and everything that has wheels. If you ask him how old he is he says "Boo"

Speaking of Boo, here is the little firecracker

Today Annie wore her Halloween costume to school. I fought it and won on Sunday and didn't even fight it today. Her teachers were bent over laughing when I left (she was a bumble bee and even wore the hood with tentacles).

She is wearing panties now...

Somehow its hard to run in skinny jeans and panties on your head

Evie's 5th Tree

Today is Evie's 5th birthday.

Last year I told you the detailed story of her life (click on story to read).

Today I want to tell you what has happened since January 19, 2007.

Different Relationship, Same God

Before Evie was born, my relationship with Christ was ordinary. My best description would be

Comfortable
Complacent
Consistent

Externally I had a great: marriage, job, husband and social group. As long as circumstances didn't rock the boat too much, I didn't have to give up too much and I knew what to expect, I trusted God. This system seemed to work well.

On January 19, 2007, my system failed. God didn't fail, my system did.

I strongly believe that through the power of prayer from a lot of people, Wes and I immediately turned to God after Evie died. Perhaps He used the solid foundation of church Wes and I had been blessed with all of our lives or perhaps the realization of temporary things of this world, but we turned to God.

God changed my system.

I ache when I'm not involved in a bible study
I run every morning so I can have uninterupted prayer
I am reading Leviticus by myself
I love answering Colt's many questions on God

I smile when someone asks about my precious Evie. Because I know without her life I don't know where I would be.

Chickens & Hunting

Really, its been in the upper 60's in January? How crazy!

We have loved getting outside during the warm days.

Even the rain didn't stop us from exploring the Ecology Preserve in Auburn. The boys were hunting for the day and the mamas were looking forward to little ones taking good naps!

If you haven't visited this place, its really fun.

This is how it really is

I really dislike birds but I've decided to accept the fact that we have them (for those of you that skim the blog- these bird live at our house, in the middle of a neighborhood). Meet Jack Mantooth and Buggy Stewart. Mat-Mat didn't make the picture but is doing well.

We've had one chicken casualty or as Colt says "that chicken done died".

As long as we keep getting these little gems, I'm content.

Colt and Lottie dog go squirrel hunting in the yard most afternoons.

Notice the gun didn't make it to the stand!
